An Open Letter to Apple re: App Store Approvals
I write as an Apple shareholder to complain about what appears to be arbitrary decisions to either not approve apps, or to pull previously-approved apps from the App Store. I read on various news outlets and blogs about the Google Voice App not gaining approval, and then about how you’ve pulled apps like GV Mobile, which provided 3rd-party functionality for Google Voice, and I am EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED, as well as concerned that you are shooting yourself in the foot with the lack of an open (or at least openly explained) process.
Again, I am a shareholder, and I worry about the effect of the publicity on the bottom line. The App Store and its catalog of applications is a huge part of what makes the iPhone product line so attractive. If you drive away developers because you have a terrible process for them to get approved, then the App Store will die, and you will have cut your own throat - and, by extension, mine as a shareholder.
Please, please, please do something to fix the terrible image you are portraying to developers and the iPhone-using public!
