A Tibetan Buddhist monk works on a Sand Mandala in the lobby of Franz Hall at the University of Portland. He and about 10 of his brothers have been working on this mandala for two days, and tonight the beautiful picture in sand will be destroyed in a sacred ceremony, representing the fleeting nature of time, mistaken concepts of permanence, and the futility of man’s actions.
